Portrait Tips

  • Always make sure you are not exposing too much skin. Bare arms and legs can detract from your face, which is the main focus of a portrait. The exception would be young children.
  • If you have a certain background in mind, make sure to dress accordingly. For a black background wear darker colors, and a white background lighter colors. If we are doing the portraits outdoors, just make sure the clothing suits the enviroment we will be shooting in.
  • Have an idea of some poses you would like done. Think of some fun ones and some serious ones.
  • For babies, make sure you schedule your appointment for one of their more active times between naptime and mealtime. A sleepy, grumpy baby will be more difficult to get a beautiful smile out of.
  • For children, especially young children, bring their favorite blanket, stuffed animal, and/or toy. It will help keep them comfortable and keep them occupied between set ups.
